How do you go about designing a sleeve?

I’m in the process of getting a sleeve and these pieces aren’t looking like they have fluidity. I have some idea about what I’m getting next but I cannot figure out how to place anything on my arm. Also wondering if it would be weird to stop using color?

I got my first Friday the 13th tattoo two weeks ago. It’s from a flash that the tattoo shop has. The artist did a great job at shading. My parents said it looks like an onion.
